We are happy to keep bringing you Hugs Across America news, highlight activities of our volunteers and create a fun place for our visitors, supporters and friends of our mission.
On a very special Family Day, the Coast Guard at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, NY passed out 70 teddies to their very appreciative youngsters. Some of the children awaited their parents deployment, others were there as guests, having lost their father's in Iraq. In spite of the difficult reasons for their presence, the kids thoroughly enjoyed the day. Great food, good music and lots of teddies to hug helped make the day a success.
Earlier this summer Hugs took teddies to the Family Day deploymnet event for the 389th CSSB at Fort Totten in New York. Families were given lots of food, entertainment and teddies to hug. An effort was made to help the children understand what was happening and what Dad or Mom might be doing by encouraging them to try on equipment, and sit in the military vehicles that might be used. Each family member and guest was also encouraged to sign a pendant that will go with the unit. Teddy hugs were given to all the children and a few eager adults as well.
Know that our prayers are with them.
