From January 1, 2011 through February 28, 2011 in Brooklyn, the chapter:
- Responded to 131 fires and other emergencies
- Assisted 888 adults and children with food, shelter and/or counseling following a disaster
- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week our Red Cross staff and volunteers are on call to help families affected by a fire with financial assistance for emergency food, clothing and shelter as well as much-needed comfort and support. That’s where hugs teddies come in. The NYC chapter of the American Red Cross deals with 7 emergencies every day and is delighted to have our help as they provide teddies and comfort for traumatized children. Most are victims of house fires, floods, neighborhood or family violence and other circumstances where they have to leave or loose their homes. Hugs Across America reaches out to children in tragic situations in every state in the country and beyond, but the NYC Red Cross is under siege on a daily basis. Meeting their needs will be a challenge, and we ask your support.
