It is amazing how fast passion can spread. I think in my area, there is just not much knowledge period of what children go through, or how they can help. I learned of Hugs Across America through Kelseys Briggs story. I am a proud Kelsey’s Purpose member and very passionate about helping children.
I am working on doing more to advocate for children in my area… Here is what I have decided so far: I would like to start with foster care / child abuse victims, police, fire Dept. and ER/hospitals and once I get going, I’d love to do military families who’s parent is deployed or have been killed.
I am working with my office to do a “Casual for a Cause” day (where we pay $5 to wear jeans), and the money goes to a cause. We already have that established, I’m just trying to get one of the days to go to Hugs. And I am planning this Spring, on a nicer day hopefully, to do a garage sale where the money raised from it will go to Hugs as well. Another thing I’m not sure if it will work, but will try is my hometown high school is hosting Regional’s for Wrestling this year, and I thought I’d see if I could have a bake sale table or something like that at the tournament. I’m not sure if they will do that, normally you have to share a percentage of your profit with the school. But those are just a few of the ideas that I am working on. I am starting slow, but it’s a start, and I’m very hopeful for our Kansas Chapter!
