Hugs Across America is an organization founded in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. It is a volunteer organization which provides huggable teddy bears directly to children in need of comfort. Brockway Elementary started our very own Hugs Across America chapter, entitled, Teddies to the Rescue! And now we would love to see our children help other children. Getting involved is a great rewarding experience, empowering them to make a difference too!
Students are going to be challenged to walk to school on Wednesday, May 19th. All students walking are being encouraged to donate $1.00 in exchange for a Dynamic Walking Dollar. All the money will go towards purchasing teddy bears to help many children. The teddy bears will be available at our school when a child is in need for tangible comforting. This will be our school’s 3rd year challenging the students to make a difference. Last year’s efforts have helped over 50 children in our very own school. Other teddy bears will go to a local program through DRMC Hospice. This program is entitled H.U.G.S. for Kids “Helping Understand Grief Stages for Kids.”

The Kids’ Panel, Student Council, at Brockway Elementary voted and named our chapter “Teddies to the Rescue.”
We gave one of our teachers a bear for his brother that was in a serious accident (he is now recovering), children that have received bears at our school and some that participated in the H.U.G.S. program at our local hospital and some of our kids’ panel members helping to write bear tags.
Chapter Information
Barbara and Principal Amy Glasl will join efforts with the students of Brockway Elementary School as they pull together to create a Hugs Chapter in their area.
The students are excited to get going and will be helping the local hospital Grief Counseling center as well as the Pediatric emergency unit.
