Stonybrook United Methodist Church established its Teddy Bear Ministry in 2005 in order for Stonybrook friends to share a teddy bear with those who could use a special touch. Our bears are placed at the back of the sanctuary ready to greet all who enter our doorways. The attached tag reads: “This Bear has been among the congregation of Stonybrook United Methodist Church, Gahanna, Ohio. It has heard the Word read, prayers prayed, songs of praise, and the sermon preached. Now it comes to you with blessings of worship and love.”
Hundreds of bears have been distributed to families celebrating the birth of a baby, a birthday, or anniversary. Bears have also been a comfort to those who are suffering an illness, the loss of a loved one, or difficulty with any of life’s “situations”. Now Stonybrook wants to spread God’s love through the Hugs Across America program.
Recently the church sent 150 teddy bears to the flooded areas of Northwest Ohio to brighten the lives of displaced children.
