Garden of Hugs
3458 Homestead Ave.

Our chapter of Hugs Across America, started two years ago by Talia Cohen, is called “A Garden of Bears.” This chapter has bloomed from a simple mitzvah project to an active community club full of laughter and good feeling.

This group of high school students meets once a month at different members’ houses to discuss fundraising and the distribution of bears and to create cute tags to put on the bears we deliver. Last year we successfully fundraised at our local elementary, middle and high schools. The bears we collected went to Winthrop Pediatric Cancer Center for Children and to Nassau County Social Services.

This year we are planning to continue donating bears to these places and also to the Wantagh Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Any young adult looking to help out for community service points, for a religious project or for a scouting project should contact us. We can use your help, even if it is only for a short-term project.

With hugs,

Talia Cohen, Lindsay Cohen, Sara Goldstein, Kayley Mavridis, Caroline Daino, Jessica Saltzman, Pamela Leibowitz, Lisamarie Calandra, Kady Wynn and Ariel Kule
